A Chair for Our Baby
Sixmile Cemetery is a small cemetery on a hill next to the stone quarry in Hayden, Indiana. Beautiful to visit during a sunset, but there isn’t much about this cemetery that sets it apart from the others in the area.
However, there is the grave of a child that draws the attention of most visitors of the cemetery. It is the grave of two year old Ida Gibbs, who died in 1864.
A small chair made of stone, with the words “Our Baby” engraved on the top. I can’t find any information on little Ida or her family, but it’s said an epidemic swept through the area around the time that Ida died. Could this be why she died so young?
